Plan Your Day at Wright Plus

This page contains information to help you plan for an enjoyable experience at WRIGHT PLUS.

To start your Wright Plus tour, check in at the Welcome Center located in the rear of 931 Chicago Ave, Oak Park, IL 60302. The Welcome Center opens at 8 am.

Please bring your printed e-ticket with barcode or make it available to scan from your smartphone. If you cannot locate your e-ticket, please provide a photo ID from the original purchaser. We will look up your tickets under that name.
Wright Plus e-ticket

At check-in you will receive your Wright Plus program, which includes a map of the tour sites, and your wristband, which serves as your ticket and is required for admission into the tour buildings. If you have pre-purchased a box lunch you will also receive your lunch voucher(s) at check-in. The wristband must be worn at all times on May 17 for entry into the tour buildings.

Avoid the registration line on Saturday and start the Housewalk at the featured house of your choice by participating in Early Check-In – only FLWT members may pick up their wristband, Wright Plus program, and lunch voucher(s) on Friday, May 16, from 10 am – 3 pm. For your convenience, tickets may be picked up at any of the following locations:

  • The Home and Studio Complex, 931 Chicago Ave, Oak Park
  • The Rookery, 209 S LaSalle St, Chicago
  • Robie House, 5757 S Woodlawn Ave, Chicago

You must bring your printed e-ticket (with barcode) or make it available to scan from your smart phone.

If choosing Early Check-In on May 16, you may wish to take advantage of your member benefits and reserve complimentary tour tickets at these sites. Tours at the Rookery Building are not complimentary; however members receive a discounted price. Advance reservations are highly recommended.

FLWT Members enjoy 20% off purchases in our Museum Shops all weekend, from Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18.

Your Fast Pass gives you priority entry to each tour home allowing you to enter with the next group.

As a benefit to our Fast Pass guests, you have the option to avoid the registration line on Saturday and start the Housewalk at the featured house of your choice by participating in Early Check-In.

You also have the option to pick up your materials the morning of the Housewalk at the Welcome Center. Check in on Saturday, May 17 begins at 8 am. You must bring your printed e-ticket (with barcode) or make it available to scan from your smart phone. If you will be arriving after 11 am, please visit the Trust's Late Check-in Tent, located in the rear of 925 Chicago Ave.

Allow all day for the tour. The buildings are open 9 am – 4 pm on Saturday, May 18.

Tour sites may be viewed in any order you choose. You may need to wait in line to view some buildings. Your Wright Plus program (provided at check-in) will have a tour map for the walk.

Two shuttle routes will be running on May 17.

North Neighborhood Route: Shuttle service between the Welcome Center (Home and Studio complex) and north neighborhood from 7:30 am to 5 pm

South Neighborhood Route: Shuttle service between the Welcome Center (Home and Studio complex), parking garages, downtown Oak Park train stations, and south neighborhood from 7:30 am to 5 pm.

A third shuttle route, the Transit Route, will only run from 7:30 am to 11:30 am between the Welcome Center (Home and Studio complex) parking garages, downtown Oak Park train stations, and a stop near Unity Temple.

Stops are indicated on the tour map, in the Wright Plus program.

Every purchase supports the education, restoration, and preservation programs of the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust.

Bag Check: To protect the homes, all large bags/items must be checked. Any bag larger than 12"w x 12"h x 5”d will not be allowed in the tour homes.

We strongly suggest you do not bring bags over this size, as very limited bag check will be available at the Welcome Center (Home and Studio complex) and individual tour sites.

A bag sizer will be used at each location to measure bags and parcels.

The Concessions Tent is located at the Welcome Center (Home and Studio complex).

Pre-purchased box lunches are available for pick up from 11 am – 2 pm.

Sandwiches

  • Beefeater: roast sirloin beef, provolone, onions, tomato, green pepper, and horseradish sauce
  • Crazy Club: Hickory smoked bacon, turkey breast, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo
  • Vegetation Creation: Grilled Zucchini, yellow squash, bell pepper, onions, and carrots on focaccia

Salads

  • Chef Salad: Garden salad with ham, turkey, provolone, and croutons (ranch or Italian dressing)
  • Greek Salad: Romaine lettuce, banana peppers, cucumber, tomato, red onion, calamata olives, feta cheese, Grecian dressing, and croutons

Lunches are first come, first serve. More information about lunch options will be released closer to the event date.

Oak Park is ten miles west of the downtown Chicago Loop and is accessible by car and public transit.

Driving directions from downtown Chicago: Take I-290 West. Exit at Harlem Avenue (Rte.43). Turn right (north) for parking garages (see adjacent map).

Parking in Oak Park:  Street parking is limited, highly regulated and strictly enforced. No parking is allowed on streets near tour buildings. Convenient all-day parking is available in the public garages shown on the adjacent map. Please note Wright Plus shuttle stops near the garages for your convenience.

Public Transportation from downtown Chicago (Metra)
Board train at Ogilvie Transportation Center (Clinton & Madison). Take westbound train (Union Pacific West Line) towards Harlem. Exit at Oak Park stop. Walk north on Marion Street to Lake Street. Turn right on Lake to Forest Avenue. Continue north on Forest to Chicago Avenue. The Home and Studio (Wright Plus Welcome Center) is on the corner of Forest and Chicago. 10- to 15-minute walk. (A Wright Plus shuttle stop will be located at North Boulevard and Marion Street. The shuttle will bring you to the Home and Studio/Welcome Center, with shuttles running from 7:30 am to 5 pm on Saturday, May 17).

Public Transportation from downtown Chicago (CTA)
Take westbound Green Line to the Oak Park Avenue stop. Walk under tracks and go north on Oak Park Avenue to Chicago Avenue. Turn left (west) and walk three blocks to the Home and Studio (Wright Plus Welcome Center). 10- to 15-minute walk. Trains run approximately every 10 minutes. (A Wright Plus shuttle stop will be located at Pleasant Street and South Grove Avenue. The shuttle will bring you to the Home and Studio/Welcome Center, with shuttles running from 7:30 am to 5 pm on Saturday, May 17).

Tickets are not refundable or exchangeable. The tour will not be cancelled due to inclement weather.

It can be difficult to judge the weather, especially in regions where conditions can change in a matter of minutes. The Wright Plus team keeps a close watch on the forecast leading up to the event and throughout the day. Rain, sun, warm, and cool weather are all possibilities in the Chicagoland area in May.

We recommend you watch the weather as well and come prepared for the day. In the event of severe weather, plans are in place for a variety of situations. Guest comfort and safety are of the utmost importance.

Security and safety are also an important part of the planning. We work hand in hand with relevant law enforcement and public protection agencies to help ensure the safety of our event. We make every effort to create a safe environment at Wright Plus.

If you need any assistance, seek out a Wright Plus volunteer, a Trust staff member, or visit one of our First Aid sites. The main First Aid Site is located at Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary School at 508 N. Kenilworth Avenue, across the street from the Wright Plus Welcome Center. A satellite First Aid Site is located at the Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School at 325 S. Kenilworth Avenue.

  • No interior photography of private homes. Photography designations will be clearly marked at each tour site. Interior photography is permitted in the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio.
  • Children under 12 years not admitted.
  • Due to the historic nature of the private homes on the walk, the tour is not physically accessible. If you have questions or would like to request accommodations, please e-mail info@flwright.org.
  • High heels are not permitted in the tour homes.
  • The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust is committed to sustainability efforts and ask that our guests use provided recycling services where available.
  • Participation entitles the Trust to unrestricted use of photographs taken during the event without subject consent.
